Generation of the Subsurface Geothermal Climate Signal By Land Surface Processes in the North American Mid-continent

چکیده
Temperature changes at the Earth surface propagate into the subsurface and leave a thermal signature in the underlying soil and rock. Measurements of subsurface temperatures have been inverted to yield reconstructions of ground surface temperature (GST) histories that provide regional and global estimates of climatic changes. A principal question remaining in the interpretation of reconstructed GST histories is the extent to which GST changes closely follow changes in surface air temperatures (SATs). While SATs are the principal meteorological component influencing temperatures at the ground surface, a variety of meteorological and

Geothermal area detection using Landsat 8 operational land imager and thermal infrared sensor data in Ardabil province, Iran
GIS and remote sensing technique with using Landsat 8 images data are very important methods for detection of geothermal resources. In this study, Land Surface Temperature (LST) for Ardabil province in northwest of Iran, was derived with the use of Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) of 30 m spatial resolution and Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) data of 100 m spatial resolution. We consider ...
متن کاملHydrologic responses of watershed assessment to land cover and climate change using soil and water assessment tool model
Predicting the impact of land cover and climate change on hydrologic responses using modeling tools are essential in understanding the movement and pattern of hydrologic processes within the watershed. The paper provided potential implications of land conversions and climate change scenarios on the hydrologic processes of Muleta watershed using soil and water assessment tool model. Model inputs...
متن کاملClimate change record in subsurface temperatures: A global perspective
Analyses of underground temperature measurements from 358 boreholes in eastern North America, central Europe, southern Africa, and Australia indicate that, in the 20th century, the average surface temperature of Earth has increased by about 0.5 degreesC and that the 20th century has been the warmest of the past five centuries. The subsurface temperatures also indicate that Earth's mean surface ...
متن کاملIndonesian Throughflow drove Australian climate from humid Pliocene to arid Pleistocene
Late Miocene to mid-Pleistocene sedimentary proxy records reveal that northwest Australia underwent an abrupt transition from dry to humid climate conditions at 5.5 million years (Ma), likely receiving year-round rainfall, but after ~3.3 Ma, climate shifted toward an increasingly seasonal precipitation regime. The progressive constriction of the Indonesian Throughflow likely decreased continent...
متن کاملProspecting for geothermal energy through satellite based thermal data: Review and the way forward
Geothermal investors need to be confident with the methods and results of exploration programs. Also cutting the upfront cost of geothermal exploration will further encourage investors to consider investment in this emerging clean energy field. Hence, it is of paramount importance to improve prospecting techniques in order to explore where economic concentrations of geothermal energy are to be ...
